The 5 Scariest Car Defects of All Time

Perfection is something we strive for, but rarely achieve. The same is true for car manufacturers. They will put vehicles on the market with defective parts just to meet deadlines. Below are what I consider to be the five most terrifying defects.

1. Ford Pinto

In the 1970s, Ford was sued for defects in the Pinto's fuel system, which could cause the car to burst into flames in a rear-end collision. The case ultimately resulted in the recall of millions of vehicles and a large compensation settlement for affected consumers.

2. Toyota: Unwanted Acceleration.

In 2009-2010, Toyota was the subject of a series of lawsuits alleging unintended acceleration in several of its models. These class-action lawsuits alleged that Toyota was aware of the defect but failed to address it, resulting in accidents and injuries.

3. GM: Ignition Switch

In 2014, General Motors (GM) was sued in a class-action lawsuit over defective ignition switches in several of its models, which could cause the engine to stall and prevent the airbags from deploying in the event of an accident. The defect was linked to more than 100 deaths and led to a major recall and a compensation settlement for affected consumers.

4. Volkswagen: Diesel Emissions

In 2015, Volkswagen (VW) was sued in a class-action lawsuit for using software that allowed its diesel vehicles to manipulate emissions tests. The case resulted in billions of dollars in fines and compensation settlements for affected consumers.

5. Takata Airbag

In 2017, several automakers, including Honda, Toyota, and BMW, were sued in a class-action lawsuit over defective airbags manufactured by Takata. The airbags were found to have the potential to rupture and cause injury or death during a crash, leading to a large vehicle recall and compensation settlements for affected consumers.

Conclusion

Contrary to what you might believe, manufacturers don't always have consumers' best interests in mind. At the end of the day, they are multi-billion-dollar corporations whose main objective is profit. If you have been sold a defective vehicle, please don't hesitate to contact us so we can help you obtain what you are entitled to under the law.
